Edge of Night (film)

Edge of Night is a 1934 American pre-Code crime drama film directed by Robert Florey. The film stars William Gargan, Mae Clarke, and Jack La Rue. It is based on a story by Samuel G. Engel.

The film centers on a young woman, Margie Hines (Clarke), who becomes entangled with a gang of jewel thieves after her boyfriend, "Toledo" (La Rue), gets involved with them. Gargan plays Danny, a reporter who tries to help Margie escape the criminal underworld and bring the gang to justice.

Edge of Night is notable for its gritty realism and fast-paced action sequences, characteristic of early 1930s crime films. The film showcases Florey's direction with innovative camera angles and lighting techniques that contribute to the film's atmosphere of suspense. Although not a widely known classic, Edge of Night is recognized by film historians as a solid example of pre-Code cinema and a compelling crime thriller.
