William Milbourne James (judge)

William Milbourne James (1807 – 1881) was a British judge and Lord Justice of Appeal.

Born in Truro, Cornwall, James was educated at Exeter College, Oxford. He was called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1833 and quickly established a successful practice in equity. He became a Queen's Counsel in 1853 and served as a Chancery judge before being appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal in 1870, a position he held until his death.

James was known for his sharp intellect, strong sense of justice, and efficient handling of cases. He played a significant role in shaping modern equity law and made important contributions to the development of legal principles in areas such as trusts and mortgages. He was respected by his peers and considered one of the leading judges of his time. He died in London on 6 May 1881.
