Pelicar (mencey)

Pelicar, in the context of pre-colonial Tenerife (one of the Canary Islands), refers to one of the menceyes (kings or chiefs) who governed a menceyato. Specifically, Pelicar was the mencey of Icode. Menceyatos were the administrative divisions of the island, each ruled by a mencey. Pelicar's menceyato of Icode was located in the northwestern part of Tenerife. Little is known about the individual Pelicar beyond his role as the leader of Icode at the time of the Castilian conquest in the late 15th century. He was one of the nine menceyes who held power on the island before it was conquered by the Kingdom of Castile.
