Mbara language (Chad)
Mbara is a nearly extinct language spoken in Chad. It belongs to the Nilo-Saharan language family, specifically the Sara languages branch. It was historically spoken in the region around the town of Mbara, located in the south of Chad.
The number of native speakers is estimated to be very low, perhaps fewer than a few dozen individuals, primarily elderly members of the community. Language shift towards more widely spoken languages such as Sara Kaba Deme and Chadian Arabic has been a major factor in its decline.
Documentation of the Mbara language is limited, though some linguistic research has been conducted. Further research is needed to fully understand its grammar, vocabulary, and cultural significance before it disappears completely. Efforts to revitalize the language are virtually nonexistent due to the very small number of remaining speakers and the overwhelming pressure of dominant languages. The language faces imminent extinction.
