Down There (album)

Down There is the sixth studio album by American musician Animal Collective's member Avey Tare. It was released on October 26, 2010, on Paw Tracks. The album was written during a period of personal turmoil for Avey Tare (David Portner) and features a swampy, murky sound characterized by heavy reverb, dub-influenced basslines, and dissonant melodies.

The album's personnel includes Portner (Avey Tare) on vocals, keyboards, and guitar, as well as Jeremy Hyman (Ponytail) on drums and percussion, and Geoff Soule (also known as Geologist, a fellow Animal Collective member) contributing sounds and effects.

Down There departs from the more psychedelic and sample-heavy textures of Animal Collective, opting for a denser, more claustrophobic sonic landscape. Lyrically, the album explores themes of isolation, alienation, and emotional processing. The album's title itself suggests a descent into the subconscious and the darker aspects of human experience.
