Pazin Castle

Pazin Castle (Croatian: Kaštel Pazin, Italian: Castello di Pisino, German: Burg Mitterburg) is a medieval castle located in Pazin, Istria, Croatia. Situated on a cliff overlooking the Foiba of Pazin, a deep sinkhole created by the Pazinčica River, it is the largest and best-preserved castle in Istria.

The castle has a long and rich history, with its origins dating back to the 10th century. It was first mentioned in 983 in a document of Emperor Otto II. Throughout the centuries, the castle has been ruled by various noble families, including the Counts of Gorizia and the Habsburgs. The castle's strategic location made it an important defensive stronghold.
