Brian Harvey (author)

Brian Harvey is an American computer scientist and educator, known primarily for his work in computer science education, particularly at the University of California, Berkeley. He is best known for co-authoring the textbook series Simply Scheme and Computer Science Logo Style (volumes I, II, and III), which advocate a functional programming approach to introductory computer science education.

Harvey taught the introductory computer science course 61A at UC Berkeley for many years, where he emphasized the importance of abstraction, recursion, and functional programming paradigms. His teaching style was known for its clarity, humor, and focus on fundamental concepts. He believed in making computer science accessible and engaging for students with diverse backgrounds and levels of prior experience.
