Otamatea River (Hawke's Bay)
The Otamatea River is a river located in the Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand's North Island. It is a relatively short river, draining a portion of the hill country west of Hastings. The river flows generally eastwards, eventually joining with other waterways to become part of the larger Ngaruroro River system. Its catchment area is primarily rural, consisting of agricultural land and native bush. The river is known for its trout fishing opportunities and is also used for recreational activities such as kayaking and swimming in certain sections. The water quality of the Otamatea River is monitored regularly to ensure its suitability for these uses and to assess the impact of land use practices within its catchment.
