John Boland (Fine Gael politician)

John Boland (born 22 October 1944) is a former Irish Fine Gael politician. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin South constituency from 1977 to 1989.

Boland was first elected to Dáil Éireann at the 1977 general election. During his time in the Dáil, he held several prominent positions. He served as Minister for Education from 1981 to 1982 and again from 1982 to 1987 in the Fine Gael-Labour coalition governments. As Minister for Education, he introduced significant reforms to the Irish education system.

Boland lost his seat in the 1989 general election and did not return to national politics. Since leaving the Dáil, he has remained involved in public life and has contributed to political commentary and analysis.
