WASP-29

WASP-29 is a designation for a G-type main-sequence star located approximately 260 light-years away in the constellation Phoenix. It is also known by its alternate designation, 1SWASP J233415.05-400308.0. The star is slightly smaller and less massive than our Sun, with an effective temperature slightly cooler as well.

WASP-29 is primarily known for hosting an extrasolar planet, WASP-29b. This planet is a hot Jupiter, a type of gas giant planet that orbits very close to its host star, resulting in high temperatures. WASP-29b was discovered through the Wide Angle Search for Planets (WASP) project, a survey designed to detect transiting exoplanets. The transit method involves observing the slight dimming of a star's light as a planet passes in front of it.

The discovery of WASP-29b and the study of the WASP-29 system contribute to our understanding of planetary formation and migration processes, particularly those involving hot Jupiters. The relatively bright nature of WASP-29 makes it a suitable target for follow-up observations and atmospheric characterization studies of its planet.
