Osama (film)

Osama is a 2003 drama film written and directed by Siddiq Barmak. It is an internationally co-produced film made in Afghanistan, Japan, Ireland, and the Netherlands. Osama tells the story of a young girl living in Afghanistan under Taliban rule who disguises herself as a boy to find work and support her family.

The film offers a stark portrayal of life in Afghanistan under the Taliban regime, particularly the restrictions placed on women. It explores themes of gender identity, survival, and the impact of political oppression on individuals and families. The film was shot entirely in Afghanistan, making it the first post-Taliban film to be made in the country.
