Eisenstein (Ore Mountains)

Eisenstein is a former mining town and present-day locality (Ortsteil) of Johanngeorgenstadt in the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) of Saxony, Germany. It is located directly on the border with the Czech Republic, adjacent to the Czech town of Potůčky (Breitenbach).

Historically, Eisenstein's significance stemmed from its rich deposits of iron ore, silver, and tin, contributing significantly to the region's mining heritage. Mining activities in the area date back to the 16th century, playing a vital role in the economic development of the Ore Mountains. The name "Eisenstein" itself literally translates to "iron stone," reflecting the abundance of iron ore.
