USS Ogden (LPD-5)

The USS Ogden (LPD-5) was an Austin-class amphibious transport dock in the United States Navy. Commissioned in 1965, the Ogden served for nearly four decades, participating in numerous operations and exercises around the world. Her primary mission was to transport and land Marines, their equipment, and supplies ashore via landing craft or helicopters.

The Austin-class LPDs were designed to support amphibious assault operations and were equipped with a well deck to accommodate landing craft, as well as a flight deck for helicopter operations. The Ogden saw service during the Vietnam War, providing vital support to U.S. forces. Later in her career, she participated in various humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts.

Decommissioned in 2007, the USS Ogden was eventually sunk as a target ship during a training exercise in 2014. Her service represents a significant period in U.S. naval history and reflects the evolving role of amphibious warfare.
