Bulworth

Bulworth is a 1998 American political satire film directed by and starring Warren Beatty. Beatty portrays Jay Billington Bulworth, a Democratic U.S. Senator from California who, facing political and personal disillusionment during a tough re-election campaign, has a mental breakdown and begins speaking his mind with brutal honesty. He hires a hitman to assassinate himself but subsequently develops a renewed zest for life, embracing radical political views and finding love with a young black activist.

The film satirizes the political landscape of the late 1990s, particularly focusing on campaign finance, the influence of special interests, racial tensions, and the Democratic Party's drift towards centrism. Bulworth's blunt and often controversial statements, delivered through rap-like monologues, challenge the established norms of political discourse. The film explores themes of alienation, authenticity, and the potential for genuine change within a corrupt system. It received mixed reviews upon release but has since garnered a cult following for its sharp wit and provocative social commentary.
