Ohno Dam, Hokkaido (Japan)

The Ohno Dam is a concrete gravity dam located on the upper reaches of the Otofuke River in Hokkaido, Japan. It is situated in the town of Kamishihoro, within the Tokachi subprefecture. The primary purpose of the dam is flood control, but it also provides benefits for irrigation and industrial water supply.

Construction of the Ohno Dam was completed in 1958. The dam has a height of 31.8 meters and a crest length of 150 meters. The reservoir created by the dam, known as Lake Ohno, has a total storage capacity of 3.4 million cubic meters.

The Ohno Dam plays a vital role in managing water resources in the Otofuke River basin. By regulating the flow of the river, the dam helps to prevent flooding during periods of heavy rainfall or snowmelt. The stored water is also released during dry periods to supplement irrigation water for agriculture and to provide water for industrial use.

The dam and surrounding area are occasionally used for recreational activities, although tourism is not a primary focus. The remote location contributes to its relatively low profile. Information on visiting the dam may be limited, and access might be restricted.
