Prince Alexander of Imereti (1760–1780)

Prince Alexander of Imereti (Georgian: ალექსანდრე იმერელი, Aleksandre Imereli; Russian: Александр Имеретинский, Aleksandr Imeretinskiy) was a member of the Georgian Bagrationi dynasty of Imereti. Born into the ruling family of the Kingdom of Imereti, his life was marked by political turmoil, rebellion against Russian influence, and ultimately, exile.

Born in 1760, Alexander was a son of Prince Giorgi, a claimant to the throne of Imereti. The unstable political landscape of Imereti during the 18th century, characterized by factionalism among noble families and interference from both the Ottoman and Russian empires, shaped Alexander's early life.

As he matured, Alexander became involved in anti-Russian activities, opposing the increasing Russian presence and control over Imereti. He participated in various plots and uprisings aimed at diminishing Russian influence and restoring Imeretian autonomy. These activities often involved alliances with other Georgian princes and regional powers.

His opposition to Russian rule eventually led to his exile from Imereti. He spent time in various locations, attempting to rally support for his cause and organize resistance. However, his efforts ultimately proved unsuccessful.

Prince Alexander died in 1780. His death marked the end of one more episode in the long history of Imereti's struggle to maintain its independence in the face of powerful neighbors. His life exemplifies the challenges faced by Georgian royalty during a period of significant political upheaval and foreign intervention.
