Nu Shooz
Nu Shooz is an American synth-pop and funk band formed in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1979. The group is best known for their 1986 hit single "I Can't Wait," which achieved significant commercial success, reaching number one on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart and number three on the Billboard Hot 100.
The band's core members were husband-and-wife duo John Smith and Valerie Day. Other members throughout the band's history included Rob Fetters, Gary Gramolini, and Chuck Burgi, among others. Nu Shooz's sound blended elements of funk, soul, pop, and synth-pop, creating a distinctive and danceable style popular during the mid-1980s.
Following the success of "I Can't Wait," Nu Shooz released their major label debut album, Poolside, in 1986. While they continued to release music, they did not achieve the same level of commercial success as their breakthrough single. Despite this, Nu Shooz remains a notable act from the 1980s synth-pop era, and "I Can't Wait" continues to be featured in films, television, and popular culture.
