KDNL-TV
KDNL-TV is a television station licensed to St. Louis, Missouri, United States. It is affiliated with the ABC television network. The station is owned and operated by Sinclair Broadcast Group. KDNL-TV's studios are located in the Clayton neighborhood of St. Louis County, and its transmitter is located in Shrewsbury, Missouri. The station broadcasts a high definition digital signal on UHF channel 30 (or virtual channel 30.1 via PSIP).
KDNL-TV first signed on the air on June 20, 1969, as an independent station. Originally owned by Evans Broadcasting, it carried a mix of syndicated programs, movies, and some local programming. The station struggled financially during its early years.
In 1986, KDNL-TV became a charter affiliate of the Fox television network. As a Fox affiliate, the station carried Fox's prime-time programming, sports, and children's shows. It also continued to air syndicated programs and movies.
In 1995, KDNL-TV was purchased by Sinclair Broadcast Group.
On August 7, 1995, KDNL-TV switched its affiliation from Fox to ABC. The Fox affiliation moved to WRBU (channel 46). The switch was part of a larger deal between ABC and Sinclair, in which several Sinclair-owned stations switched to ABC. The move significantly improved KDNL-TV's programming lineup and viewership.
KDNL-TV broadcasts local news, syndicated programming, and ABC network programming. The station also produces some local public affairs programs.
