Nicholas Donnelly (bishop)
Nicholas Donnelly (1837-1920) was an Irish Roman Catholic clergyman who served as the Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin.
Donnelly was born in Ballymitty, County Wexford. He was educated at St. Peter's College, Wexford, and later at All Hallows College, Dublin, where he was ordained a priest in 1860.
He served in various parishes in the Archdiocese of Dublin, including St. Agatha's, North William Street, and St. Andrew's, Westland Row. He was known for his pastoral work and his involvement in charitable activities.
In 1883, Donnelly was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin and Titular Bishop of Cana. He was consecrated bishop on August 26, 1883, at the Pro-Cathedral, Dublin, by Archbishop William Walsh. As Auxiliary Bishop, he assisted the Archbishop in the administration of the Archdiocese, including confirmations and ordinations.
Bishop Donnelly was actively involved in the temperance movement and promoted education. He was also a strong supporter of Irish nationalism. He died in Dublin on March 29, 1920.
