Bollingen
Bollingen is a village in the Swiss canton of Bern, situated on the upper reaches of Lake Zurich. It is part of the municipality of Rapperswil-Jona.
More significantly, Bollingen is known as the location of Carl Jung's retreat and residence. Jung, the Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, built a tower on the shores of Lake Zurich in Bollingen, beginning in 1923. This structure, often referred to as the Tower, became a central part of his personal and spiritual life, serving as a place for contemplation, reflection, and creative work. The Tower evolved over several decades, with additions and modifications reflecting Jung's inner development and evolving psychological theories.
The Bollingen Tower is not open to the public during Jung's lifetime or after his death, remaining in the possession of the Jung family. It is a significant site for those interested in Jungian psychology and the symbolic representation of the unconscious mind.
Beyond Jung's association, Bollingen remains a quiet village on Lake Zurich, characterized by its scenic beauty and tranquility.
