4 Scorpii
4 Scorpii is a star located in the constellation Scorpius. It is a blue-white hued star of spectral type B2III, indicating it is a giant star that is hotter and more luminous than the Sun. Its apparent magnitude is approximately 4.7, making it visible to the naked eye under suitable observing conditions. The star's designation follows the Bayer designation system, where Greek letters or numbers are assigned to stars within a constellation, usually in order of decreasing brightness. However, 4 Scorpii deviates from this brightness order, as other stars with Greek letter designations in Scorpius are brighter. It is a member of the Sco OB2 association, a group of young, massive stars sharing a common origin and proper motion. The distance to 4 Scorpii is estimated to be several hundred light-years. Due to its mass and stage of stellar evolution, 4 Scorpii is expected to eventually evolve into a supernova.
