Know Your Place (radio series)
Know Your Place was a British radio comedy series broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Created by Jon Holmes and starring himself, it ran for four series from 2006 to 2009. The show was a satirical look at contemporary British society, exploring class, regional stereotypes, and cultural identity through sketches and character-based humor.
Each episode typically featured a mix of recurring characters and one-off sketches, often lampooning specific social groups or topical issues. A key element of the show's humor was its use of heightened stereotypes and exaggerated regional accents, drawing on the perceived differences between various parts of the UK.
Notable recurring characters included various caricatures of middle-class professionals, working-class northerners, and aspirational members of society. The show's title, "Know Your Place," was itself a deliberate provocation, playing on the idea of social hierarchy and the perceived constraints placed upon individuals based on their background.
The series was generally well-received for its sharp writing, satirical wit, and talented cast, though some critics noted its reliance on stereotypes could sometimes be seen as insensitive. Despite its relatively short run, "Know Your Place" is remembered as a distinctive and insightful comedy series that offered a humorous commentary on British social dynamics.
