Bolkiah (arachnid)
Bolkiah is a genus of spiders in the family Tetrablemmidae. These minute, six-eyed spiders are found in Southeast Asia, primarily in Brunei and Borneo. The genus is named after the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah.
Bolkiah spiders are characterized by their small size, typically less than 2 millimeters in length. They possess a carapace that is often strongly arched and a reduced abdomen. The chelicerae (jaws) are relatively large compared to their overall body size.
These spiders are often found in leaf litter and moist environments. Their exact ecological role is not fully understood, but they are believed to be predators of other small invertebrates.
The taxonomy of Bolkiah and related Tetrablemmidae genera is still under investigation, and new species are occasionally discovered.
