MV Plassy

The MV Plassy was a British India Steam Navigation Company (BI) passenger and cargo liner. Built in 1929 by Alexander Stephen and Sons at Linthouse, Glasgow, she served primarily on the Calcutta-Rangoon route. The Plassy was requisitioned by the Royal Navy during World War II and served as an armed merchant cruiser. She was sunk by Japanese aircraft on March 2, 1942, during the evacuation of Rangoon. The wreck lies in the Andaman Sea. The ship was named after the Battle of Plassey, a significant victory for the British East India Company in 1757.
