Anthony Cox (musician)
Anthony Cox (born August 28, 1954, Minneapolis, Minnesota) is an American jazz bassist, composer, and educator. Known for his versatility and virtuosity, Cox has performed and recorded in a wide range of musical styles, including avant-garde jazz, free improvisation, classical, and world music.
Cox began playing bass at the age of 12 and studied with prominent bassists such as James "Jimmy" Garrison and Rufus Reid. He established himself as a significant figure in the Minneapolis music scene before gaining wider recognition for his work with artists like Geri Allen, John Scofield, Dewey Redman, Joe Lovano, and Uri Caine. He has also led his own ensembles and released several albums under his own name.
