Hassasna
The Hassasna are an Arab group primarily found in the Sahara region, particularly in Mauritania, Western Sahara, and parts of southern Morocco and Algeria. They are generally considered to be of Berber and Arab descent, with a strong historical association with the Beni Hassan, a powerful Arab tribe that migrated into the area centuries ago.
The Hassasna are traditionally nomadic pastoralists, relying on livestock herding, particularly camels and goats, for their livelihood. Their social structure is based on tribal affiliations and kinship ties. Historically, they played a significant role in trade and conflict in the Sahara.
Their dialect, also often referred to as Hassaniya, is a variety of Arabic that has been heavily influenced by Berber languages. It is considered a distinct dialect of Arabic, mutually intelligible with other Arabic dialects but with unique features.
The Hassasna population is difficult to accurately estimate due to their nomadic lifestyle and the political complexities of the regions they inhabit.
