Crossfire Hurricane (film)
Crossfire Hurricane is a 2012 documentary film about the Rolling Stones, directed by Brett Morgen. The film chronicles the band's history from its formation in the early 1960s through to its performance at Altamont Free Concert in 1969. It primarily uses archival footage, including concert performances, interviews, and news reports, to tell the story. Contemporary voice-over commentary is provided by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Ronnie Wood. Bill Wyman, former bassist, also provided commentary.
The film's title is taken from a lyric in the Rolling Stones' 1968 hit "Jumpin' Jack Flash." Crossfire Hurricane premiered at the London Film Festival in October 2012 and was subsequently broadcast on HBO in the United States. The documentary aimed to provide an intimate and immersive look at the Rolling Stones' early years, capturing the energy and chaos that defined their rise to fame and the cultural impact they had. It deliberately avoids covering the band's later years in detail, focusing instead on the formative decade. The film was generally well-received, praised for its use of previously unseen footage and its portrayal of the band's rebellious spirit.
