Nairobi (Money Heist)
Nairobi, whose real name is Ágata Jiménez, is a fictional character in the Spanish television series Money Heist (original title La Casa de Papel), portrayed by actress Alba Flores. She is a key member of the Professor's (Sergio Marquina) gang of robbers, specializing in forgery and counterfeiting.
Nairobi's backstory reveals a difficult life as a single mother who lost custody of her son due to her criminal activities and drug use. This experience fuels her strong maternal instincts and desire for a better future. She joins the Professor's meticulously planned heists as a means to achieve financial freedom and stability, hoping to eventually reunite with her son.
During the Royal Mint heist, Nairobi initially serves as the quality control manager for printing the money. Her leadership skills and charisma lead to her being promoted to oversee the hostages and maintain order within the Mint. She is known for her catchphrase, "Empieza el matriarcado" ("Here begins the matriarchy"), reflecting her assertive and feminist views.
In the Bank of Spain heist, Nairobi continues to play a crucial role, often acting as a voice of reason and providing emotional support to her fellow robbers. Her strong moral compass and her ability to connect with others make her a beloved member of the group.
Nairobi's character arc is marked by vulnerability, resilience, and a deep longing for family and redemption. Her relationships with other members of the gang, particularly with Helsinki (Darko Perić) and Bogotá (Hovik Keuchkerian), are significant aspects of her story. Tragically, Nairobi's story concludes with her death, a pivotal event that deeply impacts the other characters and fuels their determination to succeed in their mission. Her legacy as a strong, independent woman who fought for what she believed in remains a central theme throughout the series.
