Tony Álvarez (Cuban singer)
Tony Álvarez (born October 20, 1938, Havana, Cuba – died August 26, 2001, Miami, Florida, United States) was a popular Cuban singer known for his boleros and romantic ballads. He achieved significant success in Cuba during the 1950s and early 1960s, performing on radio, television, and in nightclubs.
Álvarez's career was interrupted by the Cuban Revolution. He was initially permitted to continue performing, but increasing political restrictions eventually led to his decision to leave the country. He emigrated to the United States in the mid-1960s, settling in Miami.
In Miami, Álvarez rebuilt his career, performing in local venues and recording albums. He retained a loyal following amongst the Cuban exile community. Although he did not achieve the same level of mainstream success he had enjoyed in Cuba, he remained a respected and active performer until his death. His repertoire included classic Cuban songs and original compositions.
