NGC 1803

NGC 1803 is a spiral galaxy located in the constellation Pictor. It was discovered on December 28, 1834, by astronomer John Herschel. The galaxy is classified as a type Sa spiral, indicating tightly wound spiral arms and a large, bright central bulge.

NGC 1803 is relatively distant from the Milky Way, with estimated distances ranging from 190 to 215 million light-years. Due to its distance, detailed observations of its individual components are challenging. Its apparent magnitude is around 13, making it a faint object requiring a moderately sized telescope for observation.

The galaxy is a member of a small group of galaxies, which are gravitationally bound together. Studies of the galaxy's redshift and other properties help astronomers understand the distribution of matter in the universe and the evolution of galaxies over cosmic time.
