Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (film)
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is a 2016 American dark fantasy adventure film directed by Tim Burton and written by Jane Goldman. It is based on the 2011 novel of the same name by Ransom Riggs. The film stars Eva Green, Asa Butterfield, Chris O'Dowd, Allison Janney, Rupert Everett, Terence Stamp, Ella Purnell, and Samuel L. Jackson.
The film tells the story of Jacob "Jake" Portman, a teenager who, after the death of his grandfather, travels to a remote Welsh island and discovers Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. He learns that the children are "Peculiars," possessing supernatural abilities, and live in a time loop to escape monstrous creatures known as Hollowgasts ("Hollows") and their evolved form, Wights.
The plot follows Jake as he integrates into the home, learns of his own peculiar ability, and helps Miss Peregrine and the other children fight against the Hollows and Wights, led by Mr. Barron.
The film was released in the United States on September 30, 2016, by 20th Century Fox. It received mixed reviews from critics, who praised its visuals and performances, particularly Green's, but criticized its narrative and pacing.
