Italvega

Italvega was an Italian brand of bicycles, primarily known for racing and touring models, produced from the early 1970s to the early 1980s. The brand was created by Ben Lawee, an American entrepreneur who saw an opportunity to import high-quality Italian-made bicycles into the United States during the cycling boom of the 1970s.

Italvega bicycles were typically manufactured by small Italian frame builders, with the frames often constructed from Columbus tubing. Key components were commonly sourced from Campagnolo. They were generally considered to be well-made and represented a good value for their price point compared to other Italian brands imported at the time, such as Colnago and Cinelli.

While specific models varied over the years, popular Italvega models included the Super Record, Nuovo Record, and Carbo. The Super Record was often the top-of-the-line model, featuring high-end components and lightweight construction.

The Italvega brand eventually ceased production in the early 1980s due to a combination of factors, including increased competition from other manufacturers and changes in the cycling market. Though no longer produced, Italvega bicycles remain popular among collectors and vintage cycling enthusiasts, valued for their craftsmanship, Italian heritage, and relatively accessible price point in the vintage market. They are often sought after for restoration projects and as examples of classic Italian cycling design from the 1970s.
