Jim Burke (cricketer)
James Francis "Jim" Burke (born 28 March 1930, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, died 4 February 2017) was an Australian cricketer who played in four Test matches between 1951 and 1959.
A right-handed batsman and occasional right-arm medium-pace bowler, Burke played first-class cricket for New South Wales from 1950/51 to 1960/61. He scored 1,521 runs at an average of 29.25 with a highest score of 153 against Queensland in 1955/56. He was a consistent, if not spectacular, player at the state level.
Burke's Test appearances were sporadic. He made his debut against the West Indies in 1951/52, playing a single match. He was recalled in 1953 for one Test against South Africa. His final two Test matches came during the 1958/59 Ashes series against England. He never cemented his place in the national side, largely due to the strength of the Australian batting lineup during his era.
After retiring from first-class cricket, Burke remained involved in the sport, serving as a coach and administrator.
