Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Turkey)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Turkey) (Turkish: Dışişleri Bakanlığı) is the Turkish government ministry responsible for the country's foreign policy and international relations. It is responsible for representing Turkey abroad, negotiating treaties and international agreements, and protecting the interests of Turkish citizens abroad.

The Ministry is headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, a cabinet-level position. The current Minister is Hakan Fidan (as of October 26, 2024). The headquarters of the Ministry is located in Ankara.

The Ministry's functions include:

  • Conducting Turkey's foreign policy in accordance with the principles and objectives set forth in the Constitution and relevant legislation.
  • Representing Turkey in international organizations and conferences.
  • Negotiating and concluding treaties and other international agreements.
  • Protecting the rights and interests of Turkish citizens and legal entities abroad.
  • Promoting Turkey's economic, cultural, and scientific relations with other countries.
  • Providing consular services to Turkish citizens abroad, including issuing passports and visas.
  • Analyzing and assessing developments in foreign countries and regions that may affect Turkey's interests.
  • Contributing to the development of Turkey's national security policy.

The Ministry operates a network of embassies, consulates, and permanent missions around the world. These diplomatic missions are responsible for representing Turkey's interests in their respective countries and providing assistance to Turkish citizens. The ministry also has a training center, the Academy of Diplomacy, to train future diplomats.
