Emerson High School (Union City, New Jersey)

Emerson High School was a four-year comprehensive public high school located in Union City, in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. It was part of the Union City School District. The school served students in ninth through twelfth grades.

Founded in 1924, Emerson High School operated for over 80 years until its closure in 2008. During its history, it provided academic, vocational, and extracurricular opportunities for students in Union City. It was named in honor of Ralph Waldo Emerson, a prominent American essayist, lecturer, philosopher, and poet.

As part of a district-wide restructuring plan, Emerson High School was merged with Union Hill High School to form the new Union City High School, which opened in September 2009. The original Emerson High School building was subsequently repurposed as a new middle school, expanding educational facilities within the district. The closure of Emerson High School marked a significant moment for alumni and the Union City community, representing the end of a long-standing institution.
