Mhlume

Mhlume is a town located in northeastern Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), within the Lubombo region. It is situated near the border with Mozambique.

Mhlume is primarily known as a sugar estate town. The Royal Swaziland Sugar Corporation (RSSC), one of the largest sugar producers in Eswatini, operates a significant sugar mill and sugarcane plantation in the vicinity. This sugar production forms the economic backbone of the town and surrounding area.

The town itself is a planned community, largely designed to support the operations of the sugar mill. Housing, schools, and medical facilities were established to accommodate workers and their families.

Beyond its industrial aspects, Mhlume is also part of a broader agricultural landscape in Eswatini. While sugar cane dominates, other agricultural activities may also be present on a smaller scale.

Mhlume offers a glimpse into the industrial and agricultural landscape of Eswatini and the importance of sugar production within the national economy. Information readily available to the public about cultural attractions or historical significance independent of the sugar industry is limited.
