Exhorder
Exhorder was an American groove metal band from New Orleans, Louisiana. Formed in 1985, they are considered a significant influence on the development of the groove metal subgenre, particularly on bands like Pantera and Lamb of God.
Exhorder's sound is characterized by its aggressive, thrash-influenced riffs, combined with a focus on groove and mid-tempo rhythms. Their lyrics often explore themes of social commentary, urban decay, and personal struggles.
The band released two studio albums during their initial run: Slaughter in the Vatican (1990) and The Law (1992). Slaughter in the Vatican is particularly noted for its raw energy and impact on the metal scene.
Exhorder disbanded in 1994, but reformed in 2008. This reunion was short-lived, and they disbanded again in 2014. They reformed once more in 2017, releasing their third studio album, Mourn the Southern Skies, in 2019. The band continues to tour and record. Key members have included Kyle Thomas (vocals) and Vinnie LaBella (guitar).
