Baraundha

Baraundha was a princely state (thikana) in British India, part of the Bagelkhand Agency. It was located in present-day Madhya Pradesh, India. The state's capital was also named Baraundha.

Baraundha was a small state ruled by Thakurs of the Raghuvanshi clan of Rajputs. The rulers held the title of Thakur. The state was considered a jagir, a type of land grant with administrative powers, rather than a fully independent kingdom. Baraundha's history is interwoven with that of the larger Bagelkhand region and its more powerful neighbours like Rewa State.

Following India's independence in 1947, Baraundha acceded to the Union of India and was subsequently integrated into the Vindhya Pradesh state. Vindhya Pradesh was later merged into Madhya Pradesh in 1956. The former royal family of Baraundha maintains a largely ceremonial presence in the region today. Historical records related to Baraundha are primarily found in archives pertaining to the Bagelkhand Agency and the records of the princely states of India.
