Mawkmai
Mawkmai was a Shan state, formerly a part of British Burma. It was located in what is now part of Myanmar. Mawkmai was one of the larger Shan states and played a significant role in the history of the region. Historically, its rulers held the title of Saopha. The state's principal town was also named Mawkmai. The area is characterized by mountainous terrain and diverse ethnic populations. Following Burmese independence, the Shan states, including Mawkmai, were incorporated into the Union of Burma. The name may also be spelled Maawkmai or Maukmai.
