Matthew Harrison (minister)

Matthew Harrison (born October 27, 1962) is the 13th and current president of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS). He was elected to the presidency in 2010 and re-elected in 2013, 2016, and 2019.

Harrison received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, and a Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana. He also holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Missiology from Concordia Theological Seminary.

Prior to his presidency, Harrison served as pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, from 1992 to 2001 and as executive director of LCMS World Relief and Human Care from 2001 to 2010.

As president of the LCMS, Harrison has focused on a number of key initiatives, including church planting, revitalization, and global mission work. He has also been a vocal advocate for confessional Lutheran theology and practice. Harrison is known for his engagement with social media, utilizing platforms like Twitter and Facebook to connect with members of the LCMS and discuss theological and cultural issues. He has also been involved in efforts to promote theological education and support LCMS pastors. He is married to Mindy and they have two children.
