Matthew Bennett (geographer)
Matthew Bennett is a British geographer specializing in glacial geomorphology and forensic geoscience. He is currently a Professor of Geography and Environmental Sciences at Bournemouth University.
Bennett's research focuses on the dynamics of glaciers and ice sheets, including their past behavior and impact on landscapes. He has conducted fieldwork in various glacial environments around the world, including Antarctica, Greenland, Iceland, and the Alps. His work often involves the application of sedimentology, stratigraphy, and geochronology to reconstruct past ice sheet configurations and understand the processes that control their behavior.
In addition to his work on glacial geomorphology, Bennett is also known for his contributions to the field of forensic geoscience. He has applied geological and geographical techniques to assist in criminal investigations, particularly in locating buried remains and identifying the provenance of geological materials.
Bennett is the author of numerous books and articles on glacial geomorphology and forensic geoscience, including the widely used textbook Glacial Geology: Ice Sheets and Landforms. He is a frequent speaker at scientific conferences and a popular science communicator, making complex scientific concepts accessible to a wider audience. He has also contributed to television documentaries related to his research.
