Mandanici
Mandanici is a comune (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Messina, in the Italian region of Sicily. Located approximately 170 kilometers (110 miles) east of Palermo and about 40 kilometers (25 miles) southwest of Messina, Mandanici sits in the Peloritani mountains.
The town's history dates back to the medieval period, with evidence of settlement in the area prior to the Norman conquest of Sicily. The economy of Mandanici is primarily based on agriculture, with traditional crops including olives, grapes, and citrus fruits. The surrounding mountainous terrain also supports livestock farming.
Historically, Mandanici was part of the County of Savoca and later became an independent comune. The town's architecture reflects its long history, with notable churches and buildings showcasing a blend of styles from different periods. The population of Mandanici is relatively small, characteristic of many inland Sicilian towns. The town has experienced population decline in recent decades due to emigration to larger urban centers and other regions.
