Máté Bella
Máté Bella is a Hungarian composer of contemporary classical music. He was born in Budapest in 1981. Bella's compositions encompass a wide range of genres, including orchestral works, chamber music, vocal pieces, and electronic music. He is known for his innovative approach to orchestration and his exploration of microtonality and spectral music techniques.
Bella studied composition at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest with Zoltán Jeney and György Kurtág Jr. He has received numerous awards and fellowships, including the Erkel Prize, the Junior Prima Prize, and the Hungarian State Scholarship.
His works have been performed by leading orchestras and ensembles both in Hungary and internationally, including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Intercontemporain, and Klangforum Wien. Notable performances include appearances at the Wien Modern festival, the Donaueschinger Musiktage, and the Ars Musica festival. He is considered one of the most significant Hungarian composers of his generation. His music is published by Editio Musica Budapest.
