Neolepton

A neolepton is a hypothetical elementary particle similar to leptons (such as the electron or muon) but differing in some key property, such as mass or interaction strength. The term is used broadly to describe theoretical particles proposed in various extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics.

Neoleptons are often invoked in theories beyond the Standard Model to address shortcomings of the current model, such as the lack of an explanation for neutrino masses, the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe, or the presence of dark matter. They could potentially interact with Standard Model particles via new forces or through extensions of the existing forces.

The specific properties of a neolepton (e.g., mass, charge, spin, interaction type) are highly dependent on the specific theoretical model in which it is proposed. Some neoleptons are predicted to be heavy versions of the known leptons, while others might have different electric charges or belong to new multiplets under the weak force.

The experimental search for neoleptons is a major focus of particle physics experiments at colliders like the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). If detected, a neolepton would provide strong evidence for physics beyond the Standard Model and significantly advance our understanding of fundamental particles and forces.
