Luigi Omodei (1657–1706)
Luigi Omodei (Rome, 1657 – Rome, 1706) was an Italian cardinal. Born into a noble Roman family, he was the son of Count Mario Omodei and Princess Violante Lanti.
Omodei was educated at the Collegio Romano and received a doctorate in law from the University of Rome. He entered the priesthood and held several positions in the Roman Curia, including Referendary of the Tribunals of the Apostolic Signature of Justice and Grace, and later became a protonotary apostolic.
Pope Innocent XI created him a cardinal deacon in the consistory of February 13, 1690. He received the red hat and the diaconate of Santa Maria in Portico Campitelli. He participated in the papal conclave of 1691, which elected Pope Innocent XII, and the conclave of 1700, which elected Pope Clement XI.
Omodei served as Camerlengo of the Sacred College of Cardinals from January 24, 1701, until January 16, 1702. He was also appointed protector of various religious orders and congregations.
Cardinal Luigi Omodei died in Rome in 1706 and was buried in the Basilica di Santa Maria in Portico Campitelli.
