The Swarm's vessels were not constructed of traditional metallic materials, but rather were bio-engineered constructs. These ships were grown and adapted to fulfill various roles within the Swarm's operations, from fighters to larger, more heavily armed cruisers. Their technology was primarily based on biological processes and energy manipulation, a stark contrast to the Federation's more conventional technology. The Swarm ships also possessed the ability to generate a powerful energy field, causing significant damage to ships that entered their territory.

Territoriality and Aggression:

The Swarm was fiercely protective of its territory, responding with immediate and overwhelming force to any perceived intrusion. Voyager was forced to adapt its tactics and technology to survive in the Swarm's territory, eventually developing a means to avoid detection by manipulating their sensors and exploiting weaknesses in their bio-engineered technology. The knowledge gained from this encounter proved valuable in later Delta Quadrant encounters.
