Lennart Ljung (engineer)

Lennart Ljung (born 1946) is a Swedish engineer and professor emeritus at Linköping University. He is known for his contributions to system identification, adaptive control, and signal processing.

Ljung received his Ph.D. in 1974 from the Lund Institute of Technology. He then joined the faculty at Linköping University, where he remained for the majority of his career.

His research has focused on developing and analyzing algorithms for estimating dynamic models from measured data. He is the author of the influential textbook System Identification: Theory for the User, which is widely used in university courses and by practitioners in the field.

Ljung has received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the IEEE Control Systems Award and the Quazza Medal from IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control). He is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. His work has been influential in the development of model-based control strategies and has found applications in areas such as process control, aerospace engineering, and signal processing.
