Lawman (TV series)
Lawman is an American Western television series that aired on ABC from 1958 to 1962. It was produced by Warner Bros. Television, known for producing other popular Westerns of the era such as Maverick, Cheyenne, and Sugarfoot.
The series starred John Russell as Marshal Dan Troop, the lawman of Laramie, Wyoming, and Peter Brown as Deputy Johnny McKay, an eager young man learning the ropes. The premise revolved around their efforts to maintain law and order in the often-violent town, dealing with cattle rustlers, bank robbers, and other troublemakers common to the Old West.
Lawman was noted for its straightforward storylines and focus on character development, particularly the contrasting personalities and growing camaraderie between the seasoned Marshal Troop and the idealistic Deputy McKay. Regular characters included rancher Walt Heger (Bek Nelson in season one) and the Birdcage Saloon owner, Lily Merrill (Peggie Castle).
The show ran for four seasons, totaling 156 episodes. Despite moderate ratings throughout its run, Lawman remains a recognizable example of the classic television Western genre. It has been rerun in syndication and released on home video.
