Keith Smith (general)

Keith Smith is a retired United States Air Force general officer. He served as the Deputy Commander, U.S. European Command (USEUCOM), Patch Barracks, Stuttgart, Germany, from July 2016 to July 2019. In this role, he assisted the Commander in controlling U.S. military operations, exercises, and security cooperation activities within the USEUCOM area of responsibility.

Prior to his assignment at USEUCOM, General Smith served as the Director, Resource Integration, Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans and Programs, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.

Smith received his commission from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1984. He has commanded at the squadron, group, and wing levels, and held various staff positions at the Air Force, Joint, and Combatant Command levels. His career has included operational and staff assignments both in the United States and overseas.

General Smith is a command pilot with more than 3,000 flying hours, primarily in the F-16 Fighting Falcon.

His decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and various other service and campaign awards. He retired from active duty in 2019.
