Ned Hanlon (politician)
Edward "Ned" Hanlon (1866-1937) was an Australian politician who served as a Senator for Queensland from 1926 to 1937. He was a member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP).
Born in Brisbane, Hanlon worked as a carpenter before entering politics. He served in the Queensland Legislative Assembly for Fitzroy from 1915 to 1926. During his time in the state parliament, he held various ministerial portfolios, including Minister for Home Affairs, Minister for Lands, and Minister for Agriculture and Stock, under several Labor Premiers.
Hanlon entered the Australian Senate in 1926. He was a strong advocate for Queensland interests in the federal parliament and actively participated in debates on issues such as industrial relations, primary production, and Commonwealth-State financial relations. He was known for his pragmatic approach and his focus on practical solutions to problems facing the state.
He remained a Senator until his death in 1937.
